The Luring is a psychological thriller about a man, Garrett, who tries to recover a lost memory that took place during his tenth birthday at his family's vacation home in Vermont. Unbeknownst to him, something unspeakable happened and as a result Garrett was found in a non-responsive state by his parents, which subsequently resulted in an extended stay in an institution. Psychiatrists call it dissociative amnesia - a loss of memory due to a traumatic event - but Garrett will soon learn some memories are best kept forgotten.

The movie is to combine a film noir-style investigation with an exploration of altered states of consciousness, focusing on the story of 50-year-old Otto Ganz, the owner of a thriving building and civil engineering company that operates worldwide. One day he has to travel to North Africa to deal with some urgent issues and there, Ganz is confronted with memories of his youth, which he had tried to forget for many years.

Under Mann’(💂)s new venture, Michael Mann Books, the prequel will begin as a novel, and possibly be adapted into a film or television series. Just two days after that announcement, another project from Michael Mann Books is in the works: author Don Winslow (Savages) is writing a novel about Chicago crime boss Tony Accardo and his successor Sam Giancana, which Mann might adapt into a feature film.
